Note: This isn’t really a product review despite how it looks. I wanted it to be similar to the other bed bug monitor reviews to make it easier for you to compare them all.
Overview
Bed bugs can’t pass through petroleum jelly. If they try they will get stuck. Some people coat the bottom of their bed’s legs in it to keep bed bugs out. This is a simple way to control bed bugs. Some people also consider it a decent way to catch and trap bed bugs. Note: some people also use double-sided tape to trap bed bugs as well.
Cost
You probably have everything you need in your house already. If not, about $15 will be all you need.
Ease of Setup and Use
Setup can be a little messy with vaseline but it isn’t difficult. Just keep an eye on where you’ve applied it.
Requires Replenishment
If using tape and you catch bed bugs you will have to replace the tape. If using vaseline and you catch bed bugs, you will have to touch up the vaseline after removing trapped bugs.
Safety
Safety is excellent if using double-sided tape. Petroleum jelly is a household item but it may be dangerous to pets and children if not handled properly.
Accuracy
This is a more passive method of catching and trapping bed bugs. It can take some time to work so short term accuracy may not be reliable.
